Doing new things is fun.

Yesterday was full of new things. First, Joe and I went to Baltimore for a photoshoot, which is a city I had never before visited. Then we met up with Brian Roberts to photograph him for ESPN Magazine, which is a mag we had never worked for. Brian is the first baseball player I've ever met, and we got to photograph him at Camden Yards, the first ballfield I've been to. These are pictures that I took with my phone. The field was beautiful. I wanted to roll around on the grass. Plus he was super hot (yes, I told Ryan). I'll let you know when the pictures are published.

What a show!

The Fatales played maybe their best show ever last night, at the Save Darfur Benefit show at Northsix. Jeffrey Lewis was great as always (check him out this Friday at the Bowery Poetry Club, along with Cockroach, a wonderful band that my friends Angela and Crystal are a part of). I think that he could perhaps be bordering on genius, but you decide. Kevin Devine was just that, divine, and Stars were great as well. Of course by then it was 1 am, so I was verrry sleepy. Please look at my post below to find out more about the organizations working to help the people of Darfur. And thank you to all our friends that came out!

New England is more liberal than I thought.

Lindsayism posted about this site today. The map above indicates each state's laws about marriage between cousins. Here's the explanation:

Purple= first cousins once removed also prohibited
Blue = only double first cousins prohibited
Green = all cousin mariages legal
Pink = first cousin marriage prohibited
Yellow = marriage allowed if couple is unable to bear children

Holy crap, I had no idea that MA would be cool with kissing cousins.

The Baxter

Tonight Christina and I saw Michael Showalter's film The Baxter the the Tribeca Film Festival. It was really sweet, hilarious, and sappy in a good way. It's the ultimate romantic comedy and it didn't even star Meg Ryan! Plus it has my favorite actors, Peter Dinklage and Paul Rudd. It will be in theaters this summer. I'll go again, if anyone wants to join me.

A blonde Lindsay Lohan is one thing, but her trout lips are just too gross. What the hell was she thinking? Via Conversations about Famous People

Great bands, great cause.

I stole this press release directly from Jen's blog.

Northsix to Host Humanitarian Benefit for the Save Darfur Coalition, Human Rights Watch, and Doctors Without Borders

Featuring Stars, Kevin Devine, Jeffrey Lewis, and The Fatales.

Tuesday, April 26
@ Northsix
66 North Six Street
Brooklyn, NY 11211
Doors: 8pm
$12 at the door
$10 advance tix through Ticketweb

Save Darfur, Human Rights Watch, & Doctors Without Borders are three of the primary organizations spreading awareness and providing relief for the genocide happening in the Darfur region of Sudan. So far, 400,000 people have died and nearly 3 million have been forced to flee the country's Darfur region. The purpose of the concert is to augment awareness to a crisis that remains relatively dormant in the public mind. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards the provision of blankets, clothing, canned rations, first aid supplies, and medical care.

Two guest speakers will inform the evening of the current crises
on-going in Sudan. Dr. Annie Sparrow, Millennium Fellow in Human
Rights at Harvard University will be speaking on behalf of Human
Rights Watch, and Kevin Phelan, Senior Press Officer of Doctors
Without Borders.

Hope to see you there.

Ryan's clever.

So we got this projector and Ryan was feeling frisky while I was out tonight. Here's the result.

Contemporary Japanese art is cool.

I haven't gotten to the Murikami curated show at the Japan Society yet, but I can't wait. Look how adorable that elephant poop is!

Tiger, grr.

Okay Mac Nerd friends. Tiger is coming out in a couple of weeks and Amazon has a $35 rebate. Order it now and you'll get it as soon as it's released!

On a similar topic, I just yesterday installed Panther on my mac. I'm loving it. I'll probably end up waiting another two years till I upgrade, but that's no reason for you to wait.

Ahh Spring.

Today I spent the day with Rachel, her mom Sue, and baby Hayden. I'd never been to Astoria Park, but had traveled above it via Amtrak. It's really beautiful, right on the water, and has lots of space for kids to run around. It was just perfect.

Cherry Blossom girl.

It's almost cherry blossom time at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden!! They have a great page on their site that let's you track the cherry blossoms. There's only one tree blooming at the moment, but they'll be bursting soon. I've never gotten there to see them and am determined to this spring. Who's gonna join me??

I'm putting my winter coats away.

Happy Daylight Savings everyone!

Trust your friends.

Andrea turned me on to today and I'm already hooked. Thanks Andrea! You can write and read reviews of your favorite bars, restaurants, and shops. Now, who can you trust more than your friends anyway?
