Something like a phenomenon.

There's something wierd going on in my neighborhood. Since this morning there have been orange balloons floating from Dobbin St. to N. 14th. They're all tethered to different rooftops. I have no idea if it's some sort of art piece, a prank, or maybe some weather-related thing. Here's a picture:

Piggles!

sadie and buster 003
I've been in MA since Friday. I haven't done too much since I've been here, hung out with some friends that I hadn't seen in a long time, and I took some pictures of my mom's guinea pigs. Cute!

Gulp.

Please please tell me that one of you out there watched this last night. You may know about my selachophobia, otherwise known as a fear of sharks. I can't even look at a picture of a shark without it truly freaking me out. And it took a lot of work on Ryan's part to get me into the water in Cancun. But that doesn't mean that I don't want a full description of any tv show or movie starring sharks. So, anyone watch it??

In other shark news, Fabien Cousteau, grandson of Jacques Cousteau, has built a great white shark-shaped submarine that allows him to "swim" with pods of great whites. Lovely.

Woah.

Okay, craziest coincidences ever. Tonight Ryan and I went to the Whitney to see the Tim Hawkinson exhibit and bumped into our friends Ian, Andrew, and Lauren. Then we bumped into Jenna, Sarah and Corinne's roommate, and then we bumped into our neighbors Marcin and John. Oof, okay.

Afterwards we headed to Black and White on East 10th Street, then onto Lit, then to some unnamed bar on 7th and 1st with John. At the end of the night Ryan and I headed to the L train and proceeded to wait on the train at 1st Ave for 20 minutes with no action. We decided to ask the guys next to us if they wanted to share a cab, and crazily enough it turned out that they were heading to a party in our building! I just can't get over this coincidence. "That's what a coincidence is! There are no small coincidences and big coincidences!" Thanks Rava. Still, I'm shocked. And we did indeed share a cab, with the craziest cab driver I've ever had. Let me just say these two words... Judas Priest.

Nerd alert.

I just got back from a trip to this wacky junkstore in Greenpoint. I don't know the name of it and I can't even tell you exactly where it is (just head down Manhattan Ave. going North farther than you ever have and it's on the left side) but it was totally worth it because I got a mint set of Scrabble for $3! You are all invited to come play at my place, you pick the day.

Fatally hot.

I'm going to start saving now so I'll have the $10.50.

The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy is coming out on April 29th, and it stars 3 of my favorite actors: Zooey Deschanel, Martin Freeman aka Tim from The Office, and Sam Rockwell. Here is an extended trailer.

I'm sleeping with the bass player.

The Fatales played at Pianos the other night. It was a pretty good show even though the sound guy was really grumpy and didn't really know what he was doing. Next NYC show is at Rothko on April 26th.

She's everywhere!

There's a brief article about Regina Spektor in the NY Times Fashion & Style section this week. She's also had reviews in Spin and Jane recently and been on Conan and will be on Leno on April 20th. And have you heard the song she did with the Strokes? It's called "Post Modern Girls & Old Fashion Men". Check it out. Oh, and she's playing Bowery Ballroom on March 30th with Sean Lennon.

Finally.

It took me forever to get around to it, and you've probably seen it already, but I have photographed the ipod cozy that Christina made for me. Isn't it cute?

He might be a genius or just a manipulative bastard.

Save Toby.

Reminder

The Fatales are playing at Pianos this Sat. at 9:30. They expect the show to sell out so you may want to buy tickets in advance.

Boozy McBoozer

A bunch of us had dinner at Oznot's Dish and then headed over to a bar on N 6th that I don't know the name of. It was cool though, and I took some pictures. Here's one.

You should shop because I can't.

Built by Wendy is opening a new store today in Williamsburg. It's a permanent sample sale open on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6pm. It's 46 North 6th between Wythe and Kent. Now get out there and buy something!

Not nearly as exciting as watching "Law & Order".

I had jury duty today. I sat around for 3 and a half hours, got called into another room, had a one and a half hour lunch, found out our case had been settled, sat again for another hour and a half, and got sent home. Tonight's "Law & Order" was wayyyyy better. I'm in love with Detective Stabler (don't tell Ryan).

Please don't be another Coupling.

The American version of the series The Office is premiering tonight on NBC at 9:30pm. I watched the first episode online a few weeks ago and the script was copied verbatim from the British version, except that names and British-isms were Americanized. Not good. I will still be watching it just in case, but I don't have much hope for this show.

UPDATE: Whoops, it doesn't premiere until March 24th. I'll be watching then.
